Brake Inspection Looking For Wear Items as My Vehicle Approaches 200,000 Miles
Accompanied and observed mechanics in the shop as they placed my lifted Nissan Xterra on their lift to remove all four wheels to measure and inspect brake discs, calipers and pads to get hard numbers on exactly where things are on my vehicles braking system, now that I have passed 195K original miles. Since the pads are still somewhat above factory specs both front and rear, with at least 5K miles to go before the front pads reach the 4mm minimum thickness, both Chad and the mechanics agree I can wait for at least one more oil change to schedule a brake job. They also noticed signs of stickiness on the rear pads, showing uneven wear, so they may recommend new calipers and a complete lube of all pins and sliding components when pads are replaced and discs turned. Good to know exactly where I stand on my main ride as it approaches 19 years of service both off road and on the highway.
