Explained to customer multipal times that I could not find a usable engine for replacement . Customer stated that he could not afford a new engine or to rebuild his engine. Being a 1994 all of the used engines have 200k-400k miles on them, engine would need rebuilt before we put it in the car. We told customer we could use the engine that was already in the car to stay within his budget and customer agreed. Car came to us with a partially torn down engine with missing and broken parts. I explained to customer that there were a list of parts that we needed to fix or replace before we could proceed, customer agreed so I asked him for a down payment to cover the parts. The intake manifold customer is referring to was not cracked, the hole right corner was broken off and missing. Got the parts needed and continued with the job. When re installing the cylinder head we fond the the center to head bolts would only torque less the half what needed and the threads started to strip out of the engine block, something we could not have known was going to happen. Called customer and explained what had happened, and how much the fix would be. At that point customer states that he could not afford the repair and that now he didn't even have the money to pay us for the original job once we completed it. Customer gave us $1225 down and I told him if he covered our labor time he could have his car and call it good. Left over cost of $1580 and customer stated that he could not afford that even with the original job going to cost $4000. And yes we record our calls for this very reason, not shady just safety on our end. If the customer wants to bring us the correct and usable engine we will put it in for the remaining $1580. So no we are not holding his car hostage.
Brought my classic 94 Honda to TNA, clearly, 3 times said "Id like the motor replaced" (.) I wanted a different motor. His mechanics went into the "blown motor" and charged me &1300 for a manifold that THEY cracked. Ive got pictures before and after they touched it, no cracked manifold. I reiterated, "Frank, I want a different motor" as he said "this one is good, we are breaking it down, its got low miles, it looks like a head gasket, we'll send the head to the shop". No matter what I said, I was ignored and the work continued with Frank lying stating "I cant find a motor". Lies, I found plenty of motors, specifically for the 94 Honda. The quote went from 4k motor swap to 7k and now the car sits, $1300 into it, an alleged balance of another $1500 to get it "out" with a total bill of $7000 TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR!! Buyer Beware!! notice the lot out back with confiscated cars, all taken or left behind by owners. I would suggest NOT TO BRING IT TO TNA Auto Repair. And don't leave a long-winded message. He doesn't answer the phone, he calls you back, that's a first sign. Then he will say, "Ive got you on a recorded line". Shady at best, please don't make this mistake. Again, look at the lot out back, check to see if TNA answers the phone. Red flags I missed. Frank doesn't even lie well. BEWARE PLEASE
