Starts out legit, but then the truth comes out.
● Overpriced repairs
● Questionable business practices

OK, lots of POSITIVE reviews here, up to, according to recent statistics, a month ago (unless Google doesn't update regularly). I USED TO BE one. So I'm VERY HAPPY and PLEASED to see that this place went OUT OF BUSINESS!! ?? Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people!! ?? Their departure, if the Google reviews are accurate, must have been recent. I recently stopped by to see WHY that building, and that area, was so dark, so, boy, was I surprised!! ?

Anyway, my updated review has been a long time coming - nearly a year. It was so bad I ALMOST took them to small claims court. By the looks of this, even IF I had won, it doesn't look like I would have been able to collect. ??

There are other pictures here of mine, one with an initial review, that speak of my positivity, with the company, although overpriced. Seems like that's a consistent theme with many of the negative reviewers. I'm not the ONLY one. If you want to read what I thought of them (the husband and wife team of Josh and Katie), originally, you can find that, there. It started out great. I think that was just to "lure me in". ??

Anyway, I had been taking a P.T. Cruiser into them for work, at various times. I always thought their prices were high, and, later on, I validated that assumption. (I had one service done, towards the end, which was a simple tune-up [spark plugs and wires], that they charged me $510.00!!???). I told that to my friend (who was shocked!) who has a business with clientele, and one of his customers (who is a service writer for another local repair shop), was ALSO shocked, later informing my friend that his shop would have done the same job - for $280.00!! ? Needless to say I kept getting more angry after each service, yet, stupidly, I kept going back, primarily because they were such kind people, which SEEMED genuine. Maybe I'm just not a good judge of character. I also suspect they were using their affiliation with "Repair Pal" (which no longer shows any connection to SCS Auto Repair), to charge these ridiculously-high prices.

So the final straw, for me, was around April/May 2023. I couldn't get the car smogged for over a year. I took it to them, and I told them I didn't want them "nickel-and-diming" me for unneeded repairs. They tried one thing ($210.00??), which didn't work. Prior to that job performed, I TOLD THEM I thought it was my computer. Josh told me they had to do "diagnostics" (which, in themselves, come with a fee, a fee they refused to waive, which most shops do, when services are rendered), to ascertain the problem. Then came another $320.00 job, which I refused, and did myself. That still didn't fix it. Finally, I brought it back and NOW they tell me it's the computer ?‍♂️?‍♂️! I threw up my hands, and said "I TOLD you so!!". "How much is that going to cost?" The verdict - $1,800.00+!! ???

I foolishly had them perform the job. I let them sit on the vehicle, to take their time with it, and to appease other customers who might be in a rush (I had just financed another vehicle). They took their sweet, old time (several weeks), to the point where I had to question what the hold-up was. I think, after that point, they finally got to it, and told me it was done; that the computer was in, and the "codes", were clear, and will pass smog. Upon departure of their business, I was barely a block away, when the engine started to sputter. I feathered it out with the gas pedal, and proceeded to my smog guy a half a mile away. I SHOULD HAVE taken it IMMEDIATELY BACK! After waiting on the DMV for my paperwork (it did pass the rest of the smog procedure), right after leaving the smog facility, it started running like crap, and the next thing I see is a HUGE WHITE CLOUD of billowing smoke!! ??? I flipped a u-turn and slowly managed the vehicle back to SCS. The verdict - Blown Turbo!! ??? "How much is THAT going to cost??" $2,200.00+. So I then ripped the owner a new one; told him I would never be doing business with him, again; that I'm contemplating suing him and his wife. I subsequently had the vehicle towed out of there. I am currently in the process of "junking" said vehicle.

My grievance ends up being one of three things: 1) WILLFUL "negligence" (on their part) - (did they do "extra damage", to have me bring it back?); 2) Incompetence (also on their part); or 3) it's a 2004 P.T. Cruiser, with a litany of problems. Was it bound to fail? ??‍♂️ That, is WHY I never took them to small claims court; I can't PROVE, that they damaged the vehicle (after I had time to calm down and apply logic and reason).
