Did not look to find problem

I am no mechanic, which is why I take the car to one. I heard a sound in the rear, brought it to them, told them it only happens when I do this & “very rarely when I step on the break.” Big mistake. They looked at the brakes. Called me with near a $1k quote saying I need to replace the rear rotors and the brakes. I said “okay for the rotors, no for the breaks, I got those pads replaced less than a month ago.” They said okay. Got the car back, still making the sound. Brought it back the same day. Website says shop closes at 6, 2 o’clock, gates were down but the mechanic got in my car said “oh, that’s rattling, not squeaking.” I never said the sound was squeaking. Turns out, the muffler was loose and hitting the subframe. They said “we don’t know how much it will cost because we got to take it to a muffler shop.” I was like “Cost? You didn’t fix the original problem! Did you look at anything besides the brakes?” They said “Well, you said it was squeaking & brakes.” I took a picture of the compliment sheet I wrote. It said “straining & groaning sound when in reverse and very rarely when hitting the brakes.” And they said, “right, hitting the breaks, so we thought it was the brakes.” I just left.
