Eventually a tow truck scooped me up and took me into Loveland and dropped me off at Metric Motors. I slept in my car until they opened. At 8am an employee parked beside me and I woke up freezing in my vehicle. I went inside and told him what happened. He talked to me in monotone voice, could not tell me exactly when he could give me a quote but that I should go get a hotel room.
Later that day he calls telling me the cost would be $2450 to replace the alternator, get a new battery and fills fluids. I called parts store for prices on parts and called Metric back. They would not do the work if the parts did not come from their suppliers. Metric wanted to charge me $650 for an alternator that was $229 at Napa a mile from the store.
I immediately called AAMCO and got a quote from them. I spoke with Julius. They would install the alternator I bought from Napa, said I would not need a new battery and their total cost was $850 and that included tax. That was a difference of $1600 from what Metric motor quoted me.
Metric Motor will gauge you when you are at your most desperate times. I was traveling to Utah to go see my kid play baseball. AAMCO got me on the road the next day at a fraction of the cost Metric Motors was trying to get me for. In fact, Metric Motors charged me $82 for a diagnostics check to tell me I needed a new alternator when I already knew that. AAMCO also did a check but did not charge me for it and laughed when I told them what Metric Motors did.
