Find alternative employment
This is a review of my "hiring" experience with K & K Glass. They accepted my mental health requirements and were fine with my medical marijuana use. However, I was not hired due to having high blood sugar the day I took my physical. I was sent to do a physical and drug test at this urgent care clinic. The ARNP I saw would not sign off on my ability to work due to having high blood sugar. I told the ARNP in advance that I already knew my sugar was high. I had not eaten or slept the night before so I knew my sugar levels were off. The ARNP told me in advance the sugar test was not part of the physical, she just wanted to check it. She also mentioned that my cough and sniffles would not be part of the physical but recommended over-the-counter medicine. At the end of my visit, she refused to sign off despite my protest, stating I had to sign up with a primary care doctor. I don't have insurance or a PCP.

Moving forward when I spoke with HR, I told them I would follow up with a PCP once I was eligible for benefits. I was told I could not be hired until I followed up, and that my offer was contingent on the follow-up. How high blood sugar would affect my ability to answer phone calls for a customer service position, I will never know. I refused to follow up with a PCP when I didn't have the job guaranteed in the first place. I told HR this seems like medical discrimination because if the ARNP was actually concerned with my blood sugar levels, she could have referred me to quest diagnostics for a hemoglobin A1C test. This is exactly what a PCP would have done. My whole experience with HR and the clinic they referred me to for the drug test and physical was discriminatory, if not predatory. They thought they could get over on me, I may be fat but I definitely am not stupid. Save yourself the time and energy and apply somewhere else.
