Vladimir was honest and walked me through everything. When I came in to pick up the loaner he showed me some of the work in person. They also found heavy carbon buildup on the intake valves and sent me the camera photos before recommending a cleaning, so I could see it for myself.
After it went back together they caught a vacuum leak from a hose, replaced it, and covered the cost themselves.
The car runs noticeably smoother than it did before the problem started. I feel confident I'll be able to keep running this car as long as possible, as long as I trust it to KB Motorsports.
