Friendly Staff
Nice staff, but dealership experience is not of a luxury brand level. Puzzle how they have West Michigan’s only Genesis franchise with facilities and service levels. Acceptable if I was servicing a GMC or Hyundai, not a luxury brand.

Brake failure error message and lost of brake power assist
Ben, thanks for the follow-up email concerning my service experience. I just dropped off my GV80 again to get the brake failure issue resolved. For the second time, the service team has been unsuccessful. I’m picking up my vehicle today to take on a two-week trip and hopefully, we don’t have an accident. I plan to continue to document and take a screenshot of every “brake failure” incident. We plan to be back home from our trip on October 2, 2021. It appears I might have a lemon and I will start the lemon law buy-back process with Genesis. And notify NHTSA concerning this brake failure issue.
It’s been very frustrating because no one seems to know what needs to be fixed and there are no GV80 loaners with a tow hitch for me to take on my planned vacations.
Here’s the information shared with the service team members.
“Hello all over the past two months I’ve had my new GV80 in the shop twice to try and resolve an error message that I get on my dashboard. “Brake error turn off the vehicle and check brakes”. Not only do I get the error message but I also lose power brake assist. The brake pedal becomes soft and I have to press the brake pedal all the way down to the floorboard to stop! The mechanics have no idea what to do or a solution. Apparently no one else has experienced this issue? The problem is intermittent and has happened 6 times, while driving on the highway, city, backing up, and just putting it in "drive". As of this Sunday (9/19/21) around 10:20am while my wife was driving the incident happen again. One day after I picked up my vehicle from Elhart Genesis dealership. Hopefully they can get my GV80 into the service department right after I get back from my vacation (10/4/2021) and resolve this critical issue.
Again thanks for your email and maybe a phone call from you to help me understand possible future direction on this issue will be greatly appreciated. I also have screen shots of three occurrences and a video of the latest brake failure error.

Everyone Goes Above & Beyond
Mike Hazelwood of Elhart reached out to me on a routine service call for my Genesis and changed my Entire perspective on the service industry. He is incredibly kind, thoughtful and takes immediate action on anything I need. After he gets me scheduled for service, he calls back to see if the service I received was exactly what I needed. Outstanding! Rod, in the service department, always does the same. He calls to tell me what he is working on, why, cost, and time it may take. He is very friendly and makes sure that my car is in tip top shape when my car leaves the dealership. Incredible service, is a huge factor in what car I buy and from where I buy it from.
This dealership (Genesis of Holland) was a breath of fresh air after a struggle with bad service for years at a nearby location.

Lack of knowledge and communication coupled with long waits
Took a couple of visits to even get someone to come out and actual help me. After finally being assisted I got bounced around from sales person to sales person with conflicting information/answers on questions I had. Looked past it and still purchased the vehicle but still never received this “red carpet” treatment I was told all about. Any issues I had after purchase were much of the same, if they did end up getting back to me at all it was in a slow and unhelpful manner. Even routine services took 4x longer than expected since they supposedly didn’t have the parts in stock. Only bright side was the receptionist was very friendly and helpful setting up appointments in a timely manner. The car detailing guy was also very nice and was one of the few people there that made me feel like and actual person that deserved his time of day, opposed to feeling like a burden to the majority of the staff.

Genesis of Holland is amazing.
Genesis of Holland has very well educated staff that are customer focused. The customer is the reason the staff is at the dealership. Customers are treated so well, it makes you want to come back for whatever maintenance is recommended. I would recommend the Genesis to anyone looking for a top of the line car and Genesis of Holland for a dealership. I love my car and I appreciate their service.

Got the job done timely and correctly which counts. But the experience is lacking for a luxury brand. I don’t mind but if you want to compete with Lexus, MB, Audi, BMW, etc the experience needs to be elevated.
