Paul, I appreciate your input. We always strive to make each customer visit a positive experience. In this particular visit, you came in for an oil change. During the visit, we informed you of a transmission leak at the transmission pan. And, you are correct, we didn't check the fluid for you at this time. I would like for you to understand that on a 2020 Ford Explorer ST, there is no dipstick to check (or top off fluid). This process involves removing the check plug (which will lose some fluid) on the transmission, running the vehicle to temperature, and then adding fluid to the vehicle until full. At this time, we didn't have the inventory (stock) of the fluid needed for your transmission (MERCON ULV). Additionally, there would be additional time and cost in this (neither of which were acceptable to you at this time). We requested this from you and provided a quote for both checking fluid and cost for pan replacement (which was declined). For motorists that have driven/operated vehicles for a long time (that have traditionally had dipsticks/tubes for transmission fluid), it can be difficult to understand that procedures change when technology changes. I truly wish we could have had better news for you in this regard. There just isn't any for this situation. A quick google search will show you the following: "Checking the transmission fluid on a 2020 Ford Explorer requires a specific, complex procedure as it is a sealed unit without a traditional under-hood dipstick. It involves warming the engine to
, lifting the vehicle on a hoist to remain level, and checking the fluid level at a 19mm plug on the driver's side of the transmission."
If you would like for us to proceed with either of the two quotes we provided, please let us know.
