-AVOID THIS SHOP. POOR QUALITY AND LACK OF ACCOUNTABILITY. POOR PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND COMMUNICATION.
-Repairs took ~6 weeks longer than initially committed. Completion date was changed last minute several times.
-Issues were found last minute which should have been caught earlier.
-The car was returned to me with additional damage to finished surfaces (clearcoat overspray).
-The shop test drove the car. Maybe that's part of their calibration process, I don't know. The issue is, they stalled it at a busy intersection (it's a manual trans) and seemed to be stuck for a few minutes. They were also recorded driving 75mph in a 45mph zone. What a lovely way to treat a customer's car!
Full details:
I was rear-ended in March 2024; my car had damage to the rear bumper and trunk. I took my car to Fix Auto in Yorba Linda because they were nearby and seemed to have good reviews.
I dropped off the car on 4/10. On 4/12 I got an update from the shop that the car would be done on 4/19. Great! Over the next 6 weeks, the 4/19 date changed 9 times and often was communicated last minute.
Fix Auto blames all of the delays on the trunk being back-ordered. The problem is, they didn't communicate a realistic timeline to me, and kept leading me on that the car was going to be ready soon. If I had known it was going to be a ~2 month process, I would have driven the car as-is, and brought it in when parts were ready.
On 6/5, when I was supposed to pick up the car, Fix Auto called me to let me know they had found some additional damage that needed to be fixed (quarter panel buckle). This is damage that should have been spotted initially and could have been worked while they were waiting for parts to come in. Oh well, I was told they would be able to fix the car in two days, so again I waited.
I believe this is where things went really wrong. In a rush to get the car done quickly, I think they cut corners and did not properly mask off the rest of the car from the area they were touching up (this is just my guess, of course they aren't going to admit it)- more on that below.
When I finally picked up my car on 6/7, I scheduled an appointment with my detailer to have the car detailed, looked over, and ceramic coating applied to the repaired surfaces (the full car was coated prior to the accident). When I dropped off the car at my detailer, they quickly pointed out several areas of the car that had clearcoat overspray (which isn't blatantly obvious unless you look closely). The detailer cleaned up most of the overspray as best they could, but one area they could not clean up was on the front end of the car, which I have a Paint Protective Film (PPF) applied to, to protect against rock chips, etc. The PPF finish was hazy and damaged (from the clearcoat overspray), and despite best efforts, could not be polished to its original clear finish. On top of that- there were deep sanding scratches left in the paint in the surrounding areas of the quarter panel area, which could not be polished out.
I notified Fix Auto about the overspray issue, and they asked me to bring it in so they could have a look. When they saw it, they denied responsibility and really didn't provide an explanation for how the PPF got damaged. The only resolution they offered was for them to try to clean it up. I refused, because they are not PPF experts, which my detailer is (who tried to clean it up, but couldn't), and at this point I had no confidence in their work.
So- I'm left with finish damage to the PPF on the front of my car, which was not there when I dropped it off. Fix Auto refused to take accountability for it. They will say that they offered to "fix it", but I have no doubts that they would actually somehow do more damage to the car in the process. How can I trust them after the terrible experience I've been through?
Please, please, please- avoid this shop if you care about your car. The lack of quality and accountability is disappointing and makes me regret ever trusting them with my car.
