I was advised to replace the spark plugs and valve cover gasket due to oil leaking into the spark plug wells.
I replaced the spark plugs myself. The plugs were worn, but I found no oil in any of the plug wells, front or rear.
The engine has normal age-related dirt and slight oil residue, but no active leak that would justify gasket replacement at this time.
I was quoted $900 for the full job, and even $700 just for spark plug replacement, which I found excessive for what turned out to be about one hour of work.
If I had been advised to replace only the spark plugs at a fair price, I would have left the vehicle for service.
Based on my experience, the repair recommendation and pricing appeared overstated.
