Root cause (s) for an engine problem without CEL or fault codes.

Our Q5 TDI with 98000 miles had engine hesitation and occasional missing while driving at a steady speed. No Check Engine Light or fault codes. Dwayne Shilling and his team looked at all the potential causes for the symptoms and were finally able to determine the root causes: intake manifold with heavy carbon buildup and a faulty throttle valve. Most dealerships don’t have the ability to diagnose and solve problems systematically, using the classic root cause failure analysis (RCFA) method that the team at DuPage Auto Werks uses regularly. Dwayne has trained his team to think through problems analytically. Unfortunately most mechanics don’t receive this kind of training. I have been going to DuPage Auto for 45 years for a reason. Indeed I buy German cars about which they know a lot just so I can avoid going to dealerships and speaking with service managers who know almost nothing about the cars they repair. Dwayne and his team really know their stuff.
